JOURNAL ENTRY NO.1: MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Teaching is not an easy process just like only imparting knowledge to the learner, but it is long and repeated process. It includes more consideration from the curriculum guide, learning outcomes, learning strategies, resources, students, and time allotment. I believe that every learner has different learning styles, experiences, interests, attitudes, and beliefs which is needed to consider in planning and management of the teaching and learning process. Also, I believe that the appropriate strategies are required to apply for effective teaching and learning because it will lead to meet the learning outcomes and learning competencies as well.

Inside the classroom, I want that my students are comfortable physically and socially which they can study as well as can communicate with their classmates and to me to feel the positive classroom environment. I will teach my students to be culturally diverse to avoid discrimination and learn to respect everyone’s opinion. During the class, I prefer that my students are actively engage in the discussion like using cooperative learning, asking questions about how they understand the lesson, and/or let them to compute the given examples and explain how they did that. Likewise, in some of the time, I want to teach them through creative ways of learning such as educational games which they need to walk or to think faster to maintain the energy of the students. Also, I will integrate technology in our discussion like providing PowerPoint presentation as an instructional materials and it is helpful to create appropriate illustrations such as shapes because of the features that it has. In addition, I can use math applications and online sites for the activity of the students wherein it will help them to enhance their technological skills.

Additionally, I will make consultation time as giving a chance to my students to raise their concerns or problems on me to address it and keep as confidential. In terms of assessment, I feel that the assessment tools should be aligned with the learning outcomes and also important to consider the students’ ability and resources. I think it is necessary to always give a diagnostic test to know what the students already know and it will serve as a guide to me on what are the things that I will need to teach. Moreover, I will communicate to the parents about the performance of their child or if there’s some problem, I think asking them about what’s happening to their child why he/she acting like that is the best to solve the problem.

As a future teacher, my goals are first, to make sure that my students learn from me, not only those who are excellent but also those who feel difficulty in Mathematics. The second one, to make my students realize the importance of Mathematics in their daily life. The third one is to respond on my students’ needs in terms of learning and make them good citizen. And, the last one is to teach them about personal matters like time management and how to survive in studying; I also want my students to feel belongingness.
